Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming to Register Tomorrow at 10 AM

JAKARTA - The General Election Commission (KPU) has announced that it has received a notification of the presidential and vice-presidential candidate registration from the Prabowo Subianto - Gibran Rakabuming Raka pair. The pair is scheduled to register on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

Idham Holik, the Head of the Technical Division for Election Management, stated that they received the notification this afternoon.

"At 3:00 PM WIB, KPU received a notification from the coalition of political parties known as the Indonesian Forward Coalition (KIM) regarding the registration plans of the presidential and vice-presidential candidate pair, Prabowo-Gibran," said Idham when contacted by Tempo on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.

Commissioner Idham confirmed that the notification mentioned that the Prabowo-Gibran pair would register at 10:00 AM WIB.

The Indonesian Forward Coalition to Hold a Declaration First Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka are endorsed by the Indonesian Forward Coalition, which consists of the Gerindra Party, Golkar Party, the National Mandate Party (PAN), the Democratic Party, the Crescent Star Party (PBB), the Gelora Party, and the Garuda Party.

Previously, the Chairman of the Golkar Party, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that the Indonesian Forward Coalition would hold a declaration event before registering the Prabowo-Gibran pair with the KPU.

"The KPU registration will begin with a declaration," Airlangga said when met at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.

Airlangga assured that the declaration event would be attended by all members of the Indonesian Forward Coalition. However, he could not confirm the location of the declaration event.

"Insha Allah, the chairman will be present," Airlangga said.

The registration is shadowed by the uncertainty of Gibran Rakabuming's party affiliation. He is a member of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), which has already supported the Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud Md. presidential candidate pair.

PDIP politician, Deddy Sitorus, stated that they have not received a letter of resignation from President Jokowi's eldest son until now. He advised Gibran to leave the party with the same formality as when he joined.

"Come in face, leave in kind," Deddy remarked.

Gibran, on the other hand, continues to evade confirming his status as a PDIP member. He merely insists that he has communicated with PDIP's Chairman of the Central Executive Board, Puan Maharani, and the National Campaign Team Chairman for Ganjar President (TPN-GP), Arsjad Rasjid.

"I have communicated with Mbak Puan and Pak Arsjad; that's my response," he stated when approached by the media at the Solo City Hall on Monday, October 23, 2023.

Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming will become the third pair to register as presidential and vice-presidential candidates with the KPU. Earlier, on Thursday, October 19, 2023, two other candidate pairs had already registered: Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar, as well as Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud Md.
